Pricing
What Taildesk costs
The short answer: currently nothing. The long answer is below, including what we do not know yet.
Tell us what you needSearch for the price of animal welfare software and you usually find a contact form. That is understandable and still annoying, because a charity with fifteen volunteers would rather not sit through a sales call to find out whether something is even an option. So here is the answer without the detour: Taildesk is free for pilot organisations, with the full feature set, no contract commitment and no payment details. What applies after that is not settled yet — and we would rather write that down than invent a number we would later charge.
Free for pilot organisations
Pilot organisations get the full feature set, with no time limit on the pilot phase, no cap on users and no payment details at sign-up. There is no stripped-down free version alongside a real one — that would be pointless for a pilot, because we need feedback on the whole product, not on a slice of it. This is not a giveaway, it is a trade: you get software, we get the one thing we otherwise do not have — how the whole thing feels in real operation.
Why it is free
Taildesk is pre-launch. There are no running installations, no references and no experience of how the product holds up across a year of everyday use. Charging for that would mean collecting money for a promise. There is a practical reason on top. The organisations helping us most right now are often the ones with the smallest budget. A price threshold would filter out exactly the people whose everyday work we need to understand.
What comes after the pilot phase
Honestly: that is not settled, and we are not going to write a number here that we change again later. What we can commit to are the terms around it. Pilot organisations will hear a price before it applies to them, not afterwards. There will be no automatic switch from free to paid where a charity suddenly receives an invoice. And the order of magnitude has to suit organisations that live on donations — software only a municipal animal home with a fixed budget can afford would have missed its purpose. When a price is settled, it will be on this page. Not in an email, not on request.
What you pay when you do not pay
The fair question about free software is what else it earns from. So, what is ruled out here: we do not sell data, we do not pass anything to third parties, and we do not fund ourselves through advertising or by handing on donor details. What you actually invest is time: feedback, conversations, occasionally patience with something that is not smooth yet. That is the price of being a pilot, and we would rather name it openly than sell it as a benefit.
What there is not
No setup fee, no minimum term, no notice period, no tiering by number of volunteers and no feature that only unlocks on a higher plan. And there is no data exit that locks you in: if you want to stop, you get your data out in a readable format. Software you cannot leave would secure us customers and cost us trust — and trust is the only thing we have at this point.
The terms at a glance
Free for pilot organisations, full feature set.
No payment details at sign-up.
No contract commitment and no notice period.
No limit on the number of volunteers or animals.
Data export in a readable format, at any time.
No reselling of data, no advertising funding.
This page describes the terms of the pilot phase of a product that has not launched. A later pricing model does not exist — neither decided internally nor quietly planned. As soon as there is one, it will be here, and pilot organisations will hear it first.
Common questions about pricing
What does Taildesk cost for an animal rescue?
For pilot organisations, currently nothing. The full feature set is free, with no time limit on the pilot phase, no payment details and no contract commitment. A pricing model for the time afterwards is not settled yet; when it is, we will publish it on this page.
Will we be charged later?
Not without warning and not automatically. There will be no silent switch that turns free access into an invoice. Pilot organisations will hear a price before it applies to them, and then decide.
What happens to our data if we stop?
You get it out in a readable format, and we delete it on request. Regardless of price that is a question of data ownership — there is more on our page about privacy and security.
Would that work for your organisation?
The questionnaire clears up in a few minutes whether you fit as a pilot and what you actually need. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
